The match between AEK and Dundee United from the Europa League turns into a nightmare

The team of AEK is relying on a miracle for the game rematch with the team of Dundee United. The hosting team was left without a football field day and a half before the match from the Europa League play-offs. This absurd situation is a result of the brutal intervention of Panionios fans in the team’s fortunes.

Panionios management allowed the match between the yellow-blacks and Dundee on 26.08 to be played on its field. The fans, however, raged and decided to take the matters into their own hands. They put a spoke into the management’s wheel and ruined the field, making it impossible to use. They occupied the headquarters of the team and then went to the stadium in Nea Smirni. Around 150 people literally ruined the field by digging holes in the grass, some two feet deep, lit fires, broke benches and stands. The companies responsible for the maintenance of the site in Nea Smirni work restlessly day and a half now, hoping to restore the old appearance of the field and make it usable. Not could only the match between AEK and Dundee, but between Panionios and Olympiakos Volos from the Super League Championship be thwarted as a result of the vandal acts.

AEK hopes that UEFA will still approve the stadium and permit the match with the Scottish team to be played. If this really happens, the match will most likely have no public, because the AEC is concerned that the team’s fans will want revenge. The president of the yellow-blacks Stavros Adamidis openly stated that he prefers the team to play with no gate than to be punished because of vandal excesses. If UEFA considers that the field in Nea Smirni can not be used AEK will resort to Olympiakos. The team already has the consent of the white-reds to use the Karaiskaki field. If the yellow-blacks choose this option, their fans will not attend the match.

A nightmare scenario AEC does not even want to think about is what if UEFA considers the field in Nea Smirni not suitable for use and does not permit AEC to use other field... In this case, the yellow-reds will lose the match with Scotland with 3:0 and will be eliminated.
