After yesterday's spectacular arrest of wanted terrorist Nikos Maziotis in central Athens, today the anti-terrorism unit started a massive operation to find the hiding places and houses used by the fugitive member of the terrorist group "Revolutionary Struggle".

It is simultaneously tracking down the accomplices in the robberies or attacks committed by Maziotis over the past two years, while he was missing, drawing a bead on the detainee’s girl-friend Paula Roupa.

The searches in Kolonos, Patissia, Kipseli, Halandri, Marathonas and Gramatiko neighbourhoods began yesterday and a flat in Exarcheia was searched this morning.

According to the police, the 42-year-old terrorist used a fake identification card in the name of Michalis Mihelakis to rent one or more houses where he had probably hidden his weapons. According to sources, a lot of keys were found in Maziotis’ backpack.

In order for the hiding places to be found quickly the police have disseminated the fake card data of the terrorist and they are seeking help from citizens, mostly owners, who may have let out a house or warehouses to him.

At the same time, using the video from the cameras installed in the underground and the electric railway the police are trying to reconstruct the route of the 42-year-old terrorist to Monastiraki underground station where they detained him.

The anti-terrorism unit had been informed that Maziotis was in Athens and used the underground and the electric train, and therefore it had formed small groups of policemen searching for him in those vehicles.

One of these groups yesterday found him at Omonia underground station and followed him. When Maziotis entered the shops for tourist goods, the anti-terrorism officers informed the operations centre of the Greek police, which gave them instructions and sent a flying squad.

Meanwhile, "Evangelismos" hospital to which the wounded terrorist was taken yesterday reports that Maziotis was operated on successfully, and it turned out that his wound was not as serious as was initially announced.

The police have disseminated a video from a security camera that shows part of the pursuit of Maziotis and the exchange of gunfire between him and the police:
