In spite of his great desire and hard struggle Marcos Baghdatis did not manage to qualify for the finals of the international tennis championship in Dubai. The Cypriot athlete who is currently on the 37th place in the world dropped out in a game against the Serbian Novak Djokovic which lasted almost three hours. Baghdatis managed to win the first set by 7:6 in the tiebreak by showing a good technical game. Unfortunately this was only in the beginning of the game.

In the second set the Serbian won by 6:3 and the greatest struggle was during the third set when Djikovic won by 6:4. This was an extremely important game which was supposed to qualify Baghdatis for the finals of the international championship. He is definitely not satisfied by the game against his Serbian opponent and says in front of journalists “that he is very angry as he did not manage to utilize none of the chances he had during the game”. Djokovic on the other hand commented on the game by saying that in spite of his victory he is not satisfied by the many mistakes he made and also by his service. Both of the tennis players were very close to winning, however crucial for the final score turned out to be details and statistical data. In spite of the fact Baghdatis had 7 aces and Djokovic only 5 he scored lower percentages in the first service (52% as opposed to his opponent who had 60%). Apart from this Djokovic won more points during the first set – 33/48 and Baghdatis – 46/66. The game between the two tennis players from the semifinals of the international championship in Dubai was definitely very hard. The goal of Djokovic was to become the first player in the world after Roger Federer who won twice in the big championship. Baghdatis and Djokovic are playing together for the fourth time in semifinals and all of their games have ended with a victory for the Serbian. They play together for the first time in 2007 in Rome when Djokovic won by 2:0. Their second game between the two tennis players is during a grand slam in Wimbledon again in 2007, when the Serbian won by 3:2 and the third was during a grand slam in Australia in 2009 when he won by 3:1. Marcos Baghdatis reached the semifinals in the tournament in Dubai, by defeating the German Michael Berer (56th in the world) by 2:0 sets in a game which lasted only 99 minutes. His loss against Djokovic and dropping out of the semifinals in an international tournament comes after his failure in the Australian Open where he had to stop the game and leave the field because of a serious shoulder trauma.
