A man, aged 56, was found dead during a fire fighting operation in the Athens neighbourhood of Kato Patisia. According to the fire service, the fire had broken out in the early morning in a flat on the first floor of a residential building.

The cause of the fire is not yet clear and a preliminary investigation is underway.

During the night, a house in the village of Eani near the town of Kozani in northwestern Greece burnt down completely as well, the possible cause of the fire being the fireplace burning in the house. Its adult owners were however able to get out of the burning home on time.
