Latest opinion polls show there will not be a single-party government

It seems that the Prime Minister Lucas Papademos has decided to hold elections on the 29th of April or the 6th of May at the latest. This became clear from the meetings which he had today with the Secretary of the Communist Party KKE Aleka Papariga and the President of the Parliamentary Group of the left party SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras.

Meanwhile, opinion polls show that eight parties will enter in the future Parliament and there won’t be a single-party government.

The date of the upcoming parliamentary elections, is expected to be officially announced next week after the end of the meetings of the Prime Minister with the leaders of political parties.

According to the statements of Tsipras after his meeting with the Prime Minister the latter has decided that the elections be held on one of the dates stated above.

The study of Kappa Research is one of those indicating that eight parties will enter the parliament. PASOK registers a slight improvement in its results when compared with New Democracy, which will receive the most votes and the difference between the two parties is almost 4 percent.

The following will also enter into parliament: the Communist Party KKE, the left party SYRIZA, the far right party LAOS, the Democratic Left, "Independent Greeks" and the Nationalist Party "Golden Dawn".

More precisely, PASOK will get 14.3 percent of the votes, New Democracy 18.1 percent, KKE 8.2 percent, LAOS 3.6%, SYRIZA 6%, the Democratic Left 4.9%, "Independent Greeks" 7.2% and "Golden Dawn" 3.4%.

25.1% of the voters have not indicated who they will vote for.

When asked who is best suited for Prime Minister, Evangelos Venizelos has a slight advantage over Antonis Samaras 22.9% against 21.7% respectively. "Nobody" was the answer of 52.5% of respondents.

69.5 percent of the respondents share the opinion that New Democracy would win the elections, 12.6 % speak in favour of PASOK.

When asked what would you prefer to follow after the elections, 59.4% of the respondents answer - a coalition government.

Nevertheless, when asked whether elections will help solve the problems of the country 54.2 percent of those polled said they would not help or it is most likely they would not help, and 42.3% answered that they will help or that it is most likely that they will help.

Three other polls

According to a survey conducted by the pollster MRB, New Democracy will receive 20.3 percent of the votes, PASOK 12.1%, KKE 8.6%, SYRIZA 7.9%, the Democratic Left 7.4%, "Independent Greeks" 7%, Environmentalists Green, 3%, LAOS 2.5 percent, "Golden Dawn" 2.6%, the Democratic Alliance of Dora Bakoyannis 2.5%, The "Arma politon" 1.5%, Movement "Andarsiya" 1.2%, and it does not indicate who will 20.5% of the respondents vote for.

The popularity of political leaders according to the study of the pollster MRB is as follows:

Fotis Kouvelis (Democratic Left): 31.2%

Lucas Papademos (PASOK): 24.4%

Yiannis Dimaras (The "Arma politon"): 23.8%

Alexis Tsipras (SYRIZA): 22.2%

Panos Kamenos ("Independent Greeks"): 20.3%

Antonis Samaras (New Democracy): 19.9%

Evangelos Venizelos (PASOK): 17.9%

Aleka Papariga (KKE): 15%

Dora Bakoyiannis (Democratic Alliance): 11.8%

George Karadzaferis (LAOS): 9.1%

Louka Katseli (The "Social Contract"): 9%

According to the study of the pollster ΜΑRC New Democracy will win 17.8 percent of the votes, PASOK 13.2%, KKE 7.5%, 7.35% Democratic Left, "Independent Greeks" 7.1%, SYRIZA 6%, LAOS 2.5 %, "Golden Dawn" 2.3%, the Democratic Alliance 2.15%, Ecologists-Greens 1.9%, and the Movement "Social Contract" 1.1%. 28.2% of the respondents have not decided whom to vote for.

When asked "Between Antonis Samaras and Evangelos Venizelos who do you think is more appropriate for Prime Minister?" Antonis Samaras receives 28.5% of the votes, and Evangelos Venizelos 28.3% of the votes, while 41.8% of participants in the study answered "nobody".

Finally, according to the survey of ALCO, New Democracy will win 24.5% of the votes, PASOK 15.5%, KKE 10%, the Democratic Left 9%, "Independent Greeks" 8%, SYRIZA 7.5 percent, LAOS 3.7 %, the Democratic Alliance 3%, Ecologists-Greens 3%, "Golden Dawn" 2.6% and the movement "Social Contract" 2%.
