This year's Christmas celebrations residents of Volos will greet with beautiful palette of sounds, colors and different cultures. As every year the municipality of the city with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism organized an International Festival of Music, Theater and Dance, which has prepared many surprises and creative events for art lovers. The festive program starts on December 19 2009 and ends on January 12 2010. This program comes back as a decoration to the already festive mood to bring joy to all people.
Every year the festival attracts thousands of spectators. Characteristic of it is that it keeps balance between the Greek and international element, the idea is to represent different cultures, but also to focus on local habits in Greece. This is why more and more regional bands take part in it. The idea of the festival is to cross various art forms - to be a bridge between dance, theater, music, oral traditions, art and mime.
This year’s festive holiday program is particularly enriched and attractive. Participation in it will take Alkistis Protopsalti and Stefanos Kokalis with their concert "One piano, one voice", Yashoda Rao Thakore from India with his show "Dances and music from India" (which will also hold training seminars for those wanting to learn the secrets of Indian dance), Stelios Pelasgos will be a story-teller through live music and songs, Blue Jazz Fiction composition with jazz-rock concert, Catherine Erica, Apostolopoulou Patrikiou and Vassilis Agrokostas will present the play Llike it was yesterday ", Family Flotz from Germany (known actors theater group , dancers and musicians who present black comedy, which has been successful in many countries). Also part of the program will be the puppet theater of Ravenna, Italy - Teatro del Drago, Angeliki Kourkoulou and Panayotis Berlis will present "Visual art and music live…on stage," Atemitos theater group with their performance "Eight women accused” and Petit Opera du Monde.
The international Festival of Music, Theater and Dance in Volos is the only winter festival in Greece. It is organized every year since 1995 and in it part have taken Urban Top of New York, Marcel Marceau, Hannah Sikoula, dance group Momix and Inbal Pinto, Chris Herring, Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter Aurelia, the Varna Opera and Sofia Ballet and many other artists.
