Houses in the Horoscope

In a series of articles I will present the topic of houses in the horoscope. I have already mentioned them so far.

I will give a brief description of the meanings of houses as they have leading significance in defining the tasks of each planet and, hence, what this planet is expected to “benefit” or “destroy”.

I’ve already mentioned that naturally the planets are conditionally divided into good and maleficent. This division is conditional, because one of the naturally good planets may have the task to bring unpleasant events in life.

Everyone knows that life is not only filled with roses and taste of chocolate. There are events which all mankind clearly perceives as unpleasant. And if it appears that one good planet such as Jupiter aims to bring exactly this kind of events, this makes it temporary maleficent conditionally, ie for this horoscope. Therefore, I would like to emphasize that these divisions of the planets are absolutely conditional, they dependent on the specific situation.

The idea of splitting horoscope into houses is too simple. Houses are the earth reflection of the heavenly split into 12 zodiac constellations. Everything that exists in this world - visible and invisible – belongs to any of the houses. They are the link between what happens in heaven and what happens on earth.

There are many houses systems to date. This means houses are calculated differently. Some are calculated based on the time the sun goes a certain way, others are based on space, the third are pure symbolical . I will not dwell on it just because it is a waste of time.
Many astrologers prefer to brain-tease to prove that the houses system they use is the most mathematically correct and accurate. In fact, there is no such a systemt. For the celestial sphere has a spherical shape. And to divide it somehow, to project it in the two-dimensional space, we always have to make some compromises in calculations. Horoscope is not just a circle on a sheet of paper. It is what we would see in the sky, if we go outside in a particular moment.

Currently, the modern western astrology adheres to the Platsidus houses system. Not because it is the most accurate one. Just because it is widespread. It is named after Platsidus De Tito, who succeeded to make it popular in the 17th century, although it was used before him. This system defines the tops of the houses according to the time for which the Sun moves from dawn to dusk and back. And every house can be passed for the same time. This means that houses from 1 to 6 correspond to the time for which the Sun moves from sunrise to sunset, and the homes from 7 to 12 – involve the time from sunset to sunrise.

What is interesting in the Platsidus houses system is that it is totally incapable and inadequate for large latitudes - about 50 ° - 60 °. But this fact is somehow being ignored. To some extent, it is offset by the wide zones around the tops of the houses. I.e. if a planet is located about 5-6 ° before the top of the third house for example, it is considered to be active at the third house.

Undoubtedly, the most reasonable approach is the equal houses or whole sign system. They are extremely simple to calculate and represent a symbolic projection of the 12 constellations. But everyone is entitled to their own choice and opinion.

What interests us in connection with the houses is: “Where is the planet to me?”. On that image the Sun is at 5th degree of Lion, in the 11th house:

The position of the zodiac remains unchanged – 5 ° Lion – for each point on earth. But the position of the house will be different for different locations.

Homes define where, how, on what and whom will act planetary energies. The twelve houses are all external conditions of human existence and how they are experienced. Each house, falling within any of the 12 zodiac signs, is basically controlled by a different planet. In other words, each planet in a horoscope has specific tasks depending on which houses it controls..

For example, on the image above, the Sun controls the Lion and the 12th house of the horoscope. It is positioned in the 11th house. What does this mean? That the tasks of the Sun are to put the events of the 12th house through the prism of the 11th house. I will tell you how it will happen after completing the description of all houses.

Now I will describe in brief the fundamental meaning of the houses. I will give some more details as part of the definitions of houses are converted or simply interpreted too narrowly.

The basic definitions can add more things as each house has the so-called derivatives, secondary meanings.

For example, the essential meaning of the 12th house is “loss, end”. In this respect the third house is 12th from the 4th house. One of the meanings of the 4th house is residence/house and hence the third house has a secondary meaning of loss/end of domicile. And this means moving to another location or separation/conversion of any property, real estate.

First house (or Ascendant)
This house defines our entry into the world, childbirth, and as such has major importance for all achievements in life. This house controls and defines the appearance, body, behaviour, environment, instinctive reaction to others, how others accept us and what impression we do. I paid a special attention to the Ascendant in a previous article.
