Once again the central Athens Syntagma Square has become the stage of violent clashes between demonstrators and police. Shortly before 3 pm, special police units have moved to the centre of the square and began to spray tear gas at the rebelled protesters.

It all started when a man was wounded with a sharp object, probably a knife, during the clashes between tens of demonstrators and a group of people who said they had nothing to do with the protesters. The
demonstrators tried to isolate the newcomers at the upper side of Syntagma Square. Other protesters took advantage of the situation and began throwing empty bottles and wooden sticks at the entrance to the subway.

The emergency medical care centre confirmed that a citizen was injured and taken to hospital by ambulance. Shortly before that another demonstrator was injured and taken to the emergency centre. According to the emergency aid, two people were taken to Alexandra Hospital after seizures. There were three injured people on Otonos Street, the one with a wound on his head, but they refused to be taken to nearby hospitals.

zougla.gr reports that there were clashes between demonstrators and special police units at the crossroad between the streets Stadiou and Vassilious Georgiou. At about 2 pm, the police forces have moved to the Filelinon Street down the Syntagma Square and used tear gas and light missiles to disperse the crowded people. At the same time, groups of demonstrators with hammers in their hands crushed marble and cement slabs and then threw them against the police forces.

Another group attacked the building near the Ministry of Finance and the police forces again used chemical gases and light missiles to disperse the demonstrators. Dozens of bins are burning and youths with covered faces are setting fire to the umbrellas of the cafes on Syntagma Square.

Further deails are coming
