The orthodox Greece celebrated officially the Resurrection of Christ with masses, fireworks and excitement. Just like every year this year as well the Holly fire arrived from the Holy Sepulchre with the government airplane and was received on Greek land with government honors. The plane landed on Saturday in the late afternoon at the international airport Elevterios Venizelos in Athens and warmed up the hearts of hundreds of Athenians who had gathered in order to light their candles from the fire. Passing the holly fire was done in the presence of representatives of the state government among which was the deputy minister of foreign affairs Spiros Kouvelis and also the Archimandrite Michail on the part of the Hexarchy of the Holy Sepulchre and the Bishop of Veria and Nausa – Pantaleon on the part of the Holy Synod.

The impatience and the excitement of the crowds who gathered are great. After the airplane landed in Greece excited people were greeting themselves with “Happy Easter!”. They were sharing between each other that this light is a blessing. With true joy they light their candles and flashlights and the fire spread into countless little lights which headed in all directions of the city.

After it was spread among the people on the airport the fire was taken to the Hexarchy of Plaka and with other planes and military helicopters it made a journey to the other parts of Greece. With a special flight of the government airplane the flame headed outside the borders of Greece – towards the Egyptian town Alexandria.
