GRReporter readers do not perceive Andonis Samaras as the next Greek Prime Minister

When in 2004 the Prime Minister of that time Costas Karamanlis lent a hand and "took out" Andonis Samaras from the deep darkness of political oblivion no one in Greece could imagine that he will become the leader of New Democracy a few years later. And not in any other way but through winning the internal party elections against the daughter of Constantinos Mitsotakis, whose government he "destroyed" after his resignation in 1993.

Even today it is not entirely clear whether the supporters of the right-wing in Greece voted for Andonis Samaras, because they believed him or just not to let the party go into the hands of Dora Bakoyannis, hence the Mitsotakis family.

Whichever is true will become clear in the next elections, but our readers certainly do not have high hopes of Andonis Samaras so far.

For the first time in the GRReporter polls the choice of the voters in the three language versions is almost identical. Most of the readers and with a very tangible difference defined the leader of New Democracy as "another demagogue and populist in the Greek politics". The percentages in the Bulgarian, Greek and English version respectively are 49, 51 and 62 in favour of this response.

Interestingly, the choice "a tourist in New Democracy, who will be displaced by Kyriakos Mitsotakis" is the second in the voters’ preferences. And this is despite the fact that the brother of Dora Bakoyannis has not expressed his willingness to displace Andonis Samaras as a leader, at least so far. The votes in favour of this choice in the Bulgarian version are 21%, in the Greek – 30% and in the English version – 22%.

The analysis of the results of the next choice is not so encouraging. Only in the Bulgarian version the possibility the politician from Kalamata to be the next prime minister who will take Greece out of the crisis takes the lead over the reply from the above paragraph, but only by 1%. So, 22% of the Bulgarian readers, 17% of the Greek and 15% of the English readers see Andonis Samaras as prime minister.

Only few readers think that he is able to unite the fragmented Greek right wing as a true leader. 8% of the Bulgarian readers and only 2% of the Greek and 1% of the English readers see an impressive political figure in the face of Andonis Samaras who will make "prodigal" sons and daughters return to New Democracy.

Thank you for your participation and we are awaiting your votes in the new GRReporter poll, asking you: What will happen to the Greek debt?
