The Greek police found almost 300 kg of cocaine in a container transporting wood flooring at the port of Thessaloniki. Behind the first rows of boards the police found 280 packages of white powder, which contained a total of 292.8 kg of cocaine. The consignment was to be delivered to a non-existent company in Bulgaria.

Nine people were detained - three of Greek origin, two Albanians, one Cypriot and two Argentineans. According to unconfirmed information, there are others involved in the operation that the police are searching at the moment. The container was sent from Paraguay and the capture of the consignment of cocaine is the result of a two-month joint investigation by the Athens police, the economic police and the Department of Drugs. Vima newspaper reports that the drugs were destined for the Greek market, so that the cocaine had to be unloaded before the container crossed the border. Criminologists argue that many consignments of drugs and other prohibited goods most likely used the same channel in the past.

At the same time, it became clear that a Marine Patrol found 20 kg of raw marijuana on a private yacht in the region of the island of Corfu near the border of Greece with Albania. According to the police officers themselves, they felt the typical smell still when the suspicious boat appeared. Five plastic bags with 18 packages of marijuana, a plastic and a metal box with additional 60 and 162 grams of marijuana respectively were seized from the vessel in the presence of a prosecutor.

The 41-year-old captain of the boat of Cypriot origin was arrested after the finding of the drugs. He said that he met a foreign national at 3 pm in order to deliver the consignment, which should reach the port of Corfu.
