Greece is drifting away from the premature elections after today’s local vote in the country. All data suggest that PASOK leads in the first round in the compound Attiki region, which is the largest election unit in the European Union. Yannis Sgouros has the lead there, supported by the governing Socialists while the representative of New Democracy Vassilis Kikilias is second. The battle between the two will be decided in the second round next Sunday, November 14.
According to initial data Socialists lead in 7 out of 13 areas in Greece. One of them is the island of Crete, where the candidate of PASOK Stavros Arnoutakis has a great advantage of 47.9 per cent. Second is the supported by Dora Bakoyannis independent candidate Dimitris Yanoulakis with 22 percent of the votes, and the supported by New Democracy Ioannis Plakiotakis gathered only 15 per cent. The governing party is leading also in the Peloponnese, North and South Aegean, while the opposition has a big advantage in Northern Greece.

82 percent of the Greeks are against early elections.
