Greeks doubt that SYRIZA will fulfil its campaign promises

Those who believe that the government will keep SYRIZA’s election promises have decreased by 22%, as shown by a survey conducted by the University of Macedonia under the commission of SKAI TV, and aired on the channel’s news slot.

In parallel, the percentage of respondents who say that "the likely exit of Greece from the eurozone" scares them has been on the rise. Back in early February, 35.5% of respondents feared Grexit, for 9.5% relinquishing the euro gave reason for hope, 22% experienced no emotion over the matter, and 33% did not believe that Grexit would take place at all.

The last poll has shown that the fearful have swollen to 42.5%, 14.5% now pinned their hopes on Grexit, 23.5% had no feelings about it, and 19.5% said they didn't believe it was going to happen.

Public opinion seems split right down the middle over the election of Prokopis Pavlopoulos as president: 45% do not approve of him while 43% do.

A  62% majority of respondents think that Panos Kamenos’ claim that "society will explode if we fail to get what we want" is "bad", and only 24% approve it.

As far as the Manolis Glezos’ slamming of the government is concerned, 55.5% of respondents agree with what he said, but 25.5 % of those who approved still said he should not have spoken publicly. 33% define his criticism as unfounded.

56% of respondents define the four-month extension of the programme as a success. For 24% it is a failure, and 20% cannot define it.

Another survey - that of Metron Analysis for Parapolitika daily, which was carried out after the agreement with the Eurogroup, showed that SYRIZA is 23.8 percent ahead of New Democracy among voters.

If parliamentary elections were held today, 42.1% of voters would vote for SYRIZA against 18.3% for New Democracy. Third comes Potami with 5.7% and fourth – Golden Dawn with 5.3%. Trailing behind them are the Communist Party with 4.1%, the Independent Greeks with 3.8% and PASOK with 3%. The Centrist Union with 2.5% and the Movement of Socialist Democrats with 1.4% are at the bottom.

The question "What would be the distribution of votes if elections were held today?" received the following responses: 47.6% of the votes will go to SYRIZA; 20.7% to New Democracy; 3.4% to PASOK; 4.3% to the Independent Greeks; 5.9% to Golden Dawn; 4.8% to the Communist Party; 6.4% to Potami; 2.8% to the Centrist Union; 1.6% to the Movement of Socialist Democrats; and 1.3% to Antarsia.

As regards the negotiations with the Europeans, 68% of respondents say they are satisfied with them, but 23% believe the government has made a mistake. Seven out of every ten respondents said they were ‘for’ the agreement with the Eurogroup.

In parallel, 76% gave a positive assessment of the work done so far by the government, and 18% thought negatively of it.

55% of respondents say Alexis Tsipras fits the role of a prime minister, while Antonis Samaras has only garnered 13% of the preferences.

81% wanted Greece to stay in the euro area, while 15% supported a return to the drachma.
