With 229 votes ‘for’, 64 ‘against’ and six abstentions the Greek parliament approved the agreement with creditors. One SYRIZA MP was not present during the voting.

All members of the parliamentary groups of New Democracy, PASOK and Potami supported the agreement, while their colleagues from the Communist Party and Golden Dawn voted against it. MPs from SYRIZA’s coalition partner Independent Greeks also voted in favour of the agreement.

32 of those who voted against the agreement and the six abstentions were SYRIZA MPs. President of parliament Zoe Konstantopoulou, former Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis and former Deputy Minister of Finance Nadia Valavani who resigned yesterday voted ‘no’.

Three government members also voted ‘no’, namely Minister of Economic Development and Energy Panagiotis Lafazanis, Deputy Minister for Social Security Dimitris Stratoulis and Deputy Minister of Defence Costas Isichos.
