The police in Lamia have released the 85-year-old man who is accused of molesting a 5-year- old girl from Bulgaria in a village in western Fthiotida. The investigation authorities and the prosecutor’s office have imposed restrictive measures on him, including a ban on travelling abroad and any contact with the 5-year-old victim.

The man is facing preliminary legal proceedings and awaiting trial.

The case became known on Wednesday when the 85-year-old man and the 60-year-old grandmother brought the child to the hospital in Lamia, as she complained of abdominal pain. During the examination, the doctors discovered what had happened to the child, which confirmed their concerns. Later the girl was transported to a hospital in Athens for further examinations.

The 85-year-old man denies the charges, claiming he is the victim of financial extortion by the child’s grandmother who lived together with him.
