Four armed Albanians broke into a hospital in Trikala. After firing Kalashnikovs in the air to intimidate the staff, they escaped with a colleague of theirs, who was serving time in a local prison. The prisoner was involved in drug trafficking and has a four-year sentence.
At the time of the incident, he was in the hospital with three prison guards to undergo tests, as he had hurt himself in the afternoon during the daily walk in the prison yard. According to eyewitnesses quoted by Naftemporiki, the Albanians managed to steal the weapons of the guards. The fourth guard remained in the car, by which they moved from the prison.
The four armed men appeared suddenly in the hallway of the hospital, rendered powerless the three guards and fired into the air without hurting anyone. Upon fleeing, they threw down the weapons of the guards and left by a car in an unknown direction.
A large police operation is under way to trace them.
