Five tourists were seriously injured when the Turkish ship Aegean Cat crushed in the port dock of the island of Kos for unknown reasons. Another 20 people were also injured but not seriously. All of the injured were hospitalized in the southeastern Greek island that is part of the archipelago of the Dodecanese.

There were 213 tourists on board, mostly from Britain as well as the six-membered crew of Turkish citizens. The incident happened when the ropes were manually tied to the dock. The crush was so strong that the standing passengers that were impatient to get out of the ship to pass through the passport control without waiting fell down and hurt themselves in solid objects.

The ship will stay at the port of Kos to clarify the incident and to assess the damage from the crush, so that it can sail safely. The healthy tourists will return to Turkey with another ship today.
