First cuts in the public sector are coming up

On Friday the Ministry of Finance presented to parliament an amendment - "Fire", affecting 7,000 employees in 40 state companies, organizations and institutions. Meanwhile Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos met and talked with the Troika leaders within the framework of the completion of the Mini Mission before the formal assessment on August 16. Representing the Troika in Athens are three leaders - Matthias Mors (from the Euro Commission), Klaus Masuch (from the European Central Bank) and the Permanent Representative of the International Monetary Fund in Athens Bob Traa. 

Meanwhile, another amendment of the Ministry of Finance allows only the Minister to change the directors of tax services who have failed to meet the objectives of increasing revenue. 

Mergers everywhere, the fate of 7,000 employees is unclear

Modification - addition to the bill "Regulations for the development and fiscal recovery - a matter of the Ministries of Finance, Culture and Tourism, Labor and Social Insurance", introduced in parliament today, leads to the merger and reorganization of 40 organizations and agencies, which directly affects 7000 people who work there as of now. 

Despite the widespread concern government spokesman Ilias Mosialos repeated the promise of Deputy Prime Minister Theodoros Pangalos from a month ago that "no public employees will be fired." 

- With general ministerial decisions, according to the case split, merged, closed or transferred to other companies and organizations are the following companies and organizations: 

- Greek National Television and Radio 
- National Real Estate Company 
- Organization for management of government materials 
- Society for tourist development 
- Organization for school buildings 
- State Company for construction of hospitals 
- Construction Corporation "Themis"
- Hellenic Organization of Small and Medium Enterprises and Craftsmen 
- Institute of geological and mining research 
- National Youth Foundation
 
  
Closed or merged immediately are the following organizations: 

- The Council for National Energy Strategy of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and climate change - is closed, and its powers are transferred to the National Commission for Energy Planning in the same Ministry. 

- National Organization for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Education, lifelong learning and religion - is closed. 

- Educational center for training of forest officers of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and climate change - is closed. 

- Station for control of boars, Chief Regional Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food - is closed. 

- The National Theatre and Dance Centre of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism - are closed, but its powers are transferred to the Directorate theater and dance at the same ministry. 

- Voluntary organization "Case of the citizens" of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism - is closed. 

- National Stadium in Nea Ionia - Volos, of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism - is closed. 

- Training Center in horseback riding at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism - is closed

- Institute for technical seismology and seismic construction – is closed as a separate body and merges with the Organization for seismic planning and protection, due to similarity in scope of activity. 

- National Centre for sailing in Piraeus, the National Sports Center in Glyfada "Μateos Lougas" and the National Sports Hall of Piraeus "Petros Kapagerov" - closed as separate units and merge with the National Youth Sports Center in Agios Kozmas

- National Sports and Sea Centre in Iannina - closed as a separate unit and merges with the European national sports center in Iannina, because of overlapping powers. 

- National shooting center in Chania - closed as a separate unit and merges with the National Sports Centre in Chania, given the similarity in the activities. 

- Chamber Opera of Thessaloniki - closed as a separate department and merges with the State Theatre of Northern Greece, due to similarity in their activities. 

- Organization for the development and management of parks "Αndonis Tritsis", Organization for the development and management of olive groves in Attica, the Office of Management and restoration of Kifisos river and its tributaries in Attica area - closed as separate units and merge into a new entity named "Mitropolean service for recovery and management of protected areas in Attica," which will be non-profit organization under the Ministry of Environment, Energy and climate change. 

- The Alexander Palace of Sports in Thessaloniki, the National Marine Sports Center in Thessaloniki, the regional national sports center in Thessaloniki, the National Sports Hall for Children in Thessaloniki - closed as separate units and merge into a new entity named "National Sports Centers – Thessaloniki”, under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism

- Center for Digital Observatory Greece - closed as a separate unit and merges with the Greek Statistical Service, which from now on will carry out the tasks of the center.
