Fires are raging in Halkidiki and in Thesprotia

A fire rages that broke out in the Gorilla mountain in the area of Paramitiya, Thesprotia region, a new fire erupted at noon in Halkidiki. In Thesprotia in a battle with the flames rushed six firefighters, two fire engines, one group of mountaineers, and two aircraft and helicopters threw water from the air.
The fire in Nikiti at Chalkidiki started shortly after 13:00 o’clock at noon, but did not threaten the city. When putting out the fire took part 19 firefighters, 10 vehicles, two groups of infantrymen and a helicopter, reveals newspaper Ta Nea.

To some extent was put under control the fire that broke out in the Citia area on the island of Crete. The fire in the area of  Karisto on the island of Evia which earlier threatened several villages is also under control,. All night firefighters fought with the flames, and at the dawn with the first rays of sun in the campaign also took part airplanes to extinguish from the air. Small outbreaks exist in the area in Lala Karistos where there are 48 firefighters with 24 cars and four squads of infantry. In the early afternoon yesterday the flames threatened the village at the area of Lala, but later due to the change of wind the flames retreated into a small ravine. According to local authorities there are no reports of burned houses. The fires in the Livadia and Arcadia, which broke out yesterday afternoon are also under control.

For today, according to the forecast of the fire hazard map, issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, it is noted that very high fire hazard (Category 4) there is in Athens, east and west of Athens and Piraeus and on the island of Euboea, on the Cyclades islands, on the islands of Lesbos, Samos, Chios and on the entire island of Crete.

Therefore, the management of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection are on high alert and asked people to avoid any action which may cause a fire through negligence - such as throwing lit cigarettes to burn dry grass and branches or to use machinery and equipment causing sparks, such as saws, welding machines, etc.. Also representatives of the Civil Defense service asked for immediate notification in case of fire on telephone 199.
