Euroleague - Olympiakos unexpected loss

Olympiakos lost the “Balkan Derby” in this years’ basketball Euroleague. In a game of the fifth round the Greeks lost with 80:86 as visitors of Partizan.

After the first quarter the “red-whites” were leading and after a five minute game they were leading with 11:2. During the first ten minutes with the strong play of Alexander Rashic the Serbs regained points but still the result was in favor of the Greeks – 21:19. Thanks to the quick rhythm of Bourousi and Halperin, Olympiakos won the first half.

During the third and fourth part of the game the Serbs managed to turn the game in their favor. Olympiakos players lost their concentration and made several defense and attack mistakes. At the end of the game the Serbs scored eight points and the Greeks – only 2. During the last minute the Greek opponents were leading with 80:72 and Olympiakos registered its second lost game for the season.

Alexander Maric was the best player for Partizan. Hescored 23 points and won 15 ball fights. Alexander Rashic added another 25 points and Bo MacCaleb scored 19 points. For Olympiakos the ebst players were Josh Childress and Linas Klaza, who scored 18 points each. Votam Halperin added another 15 and Milosh Theodosic – 12 points.

Despite the lost game Olympiakos still hold its second place in Group B with three victories and two losses. The Partizan team is number five with two victories and three losses.

Another Greek team also registered a loss. As a visitor Marousi lost against Maccabi Tel Aviv with 75:67. Until now the new Europe team Marousi has one victory and four losses. In the next round the team will have a hard time facing CSKA Moscow.
