The match between the football teams of PAOK and Ajax played on Tumba stadium in Thessaloniki finished 3:3. Although the meeting was spectacular and dynamic the result made the hosts say good-bye to their hopes for further participation in the Champions League.

The guests had strong desires for a quick goal at the beginning of the meeting. They had two pretty good chances in the first minutes of the game to achieve their goal. Ultimately, they failed to score. The player Lindgren tried to score in the 8th minute but shot over the crossbar. Suarez attempted a header in the 12th minute but this time the ball came out. The Dutch attacks woke up the hosts. PAOK proceed to their first attempts to score after a short cold shower. Salpigidis was one step from taking the lead in the 14th minute but his shot did not pass the goal line. The player Vieirinha fixed the unsuccessful attempt to score after only two minutes. He sent the ball into the opponent's goal in the 16th minute thereby launching a struggle that finally turned into agony. PAOK had a very good chance in the 28th minute when Vieirinha found himself in the center of the game again. Unfortunately his shot was interrupted by the goalkeeper Stekelenburg. The Dutch tried to equalize the score by the end of the first half, but it never happened. The first half ended with a 1:0 score for the hosts.

PAOK started the second half with serious errors. The lack of defence led the Dutch team easily push their way to the goal and score... 3 goals. The player Suarez again tried to score in the 48th minute, but this time successfully. Just two minutes later the Dutch scored their second goal for the night thanks to de Jong. The culmination was in the 53rd minute when the Dutch scored their third goal from a foul of Lindgren.

Despite the fatal twist, PAOK did not give up trying to turn the result. Salpigidis warmed the frozen hearts of the fans in the 55th minute and brought the result to 2-3. This was the first goal in the colours of PAOK since the player returned to his team.

Suarez continued to pursue opportunities to score. There were very good chances in the 67th and 71st minute. The hosts had a great chance to score again in the 86th minute. Ivic missed the chance. In the 89th minute Salpigidis also missed a chance to score. Ivic managed to finally score in the 90th minute, but this could not change anything. PAOK dropped out of the Champions League.
