Drama and scandal took over the team of the new reality show edition of Greek Idol during the process of preparing the production. For weeks in a row ran the private TV Alpha aired a commercial about the famous Greek composer and artist Nikos Karvelas taking part in the show as a chairman of the jury. Few days ago news broke out that after months of work in pre-production the leading person in the talent show has left the program. 

The first formal statement the production gave out was that Karvela left for personal reasons. This information seemed very unsatisfactory to the Greek media, which began its own investigation. One of the reasons for leaving is that the composer did not want to work with the famous composer and conductor Eugenia Manoulidou. Other unofficial sources claim that Nikos Karvela had claimed the management of the eliminated participants in the process of the show. Such practice does not exist in TV and media producers cannot allow any third party (even if this is Karvelas) to professionally engage with discovery-participants of the production. 

After the official news of the departure of the initial choice for chairman of Greek Idol, the name of the musician Yiannis Kotsiras started appearing in the media. In an interview Kotsiras, said: " I have been auditioning young artists and helping them in their career for ten years. In this case, I'm just asked to do the same thing in front of a larger audience and television cameras in the context of this show for finding a talent." Two days after this statement, Yiannis Kotsiras released an open letter, in which he says: “I want to thank the whole team of Alpha TV and especially to Roula Koromila for this offer but I cannot accept." 

Right now the production is casting for talents and its first stop is Thessaloniki. According to the latest Alpha  TV press release the jury will be: music producer Dimitris Kondoupoulos, Maro Theodorakis - niece of the great Greek composer and director Miki Theodorakis and director Kostas Kapetanidis. Host of the TV show will be the actress Ada Livitsanou.
