Teams of the police and the fire service found the bodies of two young men aged 25 and 26 in a hard to access mountainous region in the southwestern Peloponnese. They were reported missing on Tuesday following the information provided by the parents of the 26-year-old man and a relative of his 25-year-old friend. They said they had spoken with them between 00:30 am and 01:30 am on Tuesday for the last time.

The operation to search for the men started at around 03:00 pm the same day, between Kambos and Kardamili villages in the Messinia area.

The bodies were found just before dusk in a 4-5 metre deep mountain precipice in the region of Kardamili, which is the reason for their transportation to start this morning. The investigators are convinced that these are the young men in question. A forensic doctor has arrived at the scene and he will later perform an autopsy to determine whether the men died as the result of a criminal assault. According to the Greek media, the first assumptions are that the young people were beaten to death. New evidence, however, indicates that there are gunshot wounds from a hunting rifle on the bodies and that they had been transported after the murder to the place where they were found.

One of the victims was from the city of Kalamata in the Peloponnese and the other from the island of Samos. According to a publication in "Eleftheria" newspaper of Kalamata, during their last conversation with relatives they informed them that they would go to the Koskaraga area on a motorcycle. On Monday night they were in a disco club in Kardamili which they left, telling their friends that they had a meeting. From this point on, they did not give any signs of life.

The investigation teams involving members of the special forces of the Greek police, two dogs trained for this purpose and volunteers from the Greek rescue group 'Gaia' discovered them due to the signal of their mobile phones, even though they were turned off. The motorcycle on which the young people travelled has not yet been found.

According to a publication in the online edition iefimerida.gr, the name of the 25-year-old man from Kalamata is Konstantinos Sgouros and of the 26-year-old from Samos Yiannis Komatis.

The article states that, although the motives for the murder are not yet clear, the evidence suggests that the case revolves around a settling of accounts. The media presents the Facebook profile pictures of the two men that show that they were actively involved in bodybuilding. Sgouros worked as a professional fitness trainer and sports nutrition consultant, and lived in Piraeus. In addition, he participated in competitions and his body is filled with tattoos, including swastikas, slogans such as "Homeland above all", "Greece or ash," the Greek national flag, the star of Vergina among others.

Yiannis Komatis was a professional soldier in the land forces.
