Diego Maradona: "My Team is Full of Beasts That Will Tear the Enemy"

The game of the Greek nationals with the favorite Argentina is only after two days. Two days during which the media do not stop to discuss the mood of the team and its chances to overcome the “suite” of Diego Maradona. The task is definitely difficult. But here lies the challenge to participate in the World Cup...

The nationals have realized the degree of difficulty and repeatedly emphasize that they will make the best of themselves. Simultaneously, however, they want to enjoy the meeting with the “great” opponent. Just a plain fact. For many of them probably there will not be a second World Cup and second Argentina.

On the background on the intense preparations of the team for the meeting with the fateful opponent, journalists are looking for excuses for the unleashed passions and high demands to the team. Not very ashamed comments on the hourly deliberations of the matches after their end appear in the mass media. The reason lies in the fact that the society itself needs this emotion, say some.

And what thoughts run through the minds of the national team while warming up on the stadiums in South Africa? Is the thought that Maradona is making changes in the team soothing them? “For me Argentina is the most accomplished team so far. It is the favorite of the group and the championship... We go there to win. Either way, it appears that anything can happen during this tournament,” comments the future game Fanis Gekas. To the Greek media, he said: “We stepped hardly on our feet during the matches. The goal is you to land. We are concentrating on the aim we have set for ourselves since we have come here. We came with a specific task and I think things are developing so far.”

Sokratis Papastathopoulos believes there are no reasons the team of Greece to fear from Argentina. The international defender stated that Greece is able to defend and may achieve the desired result in the match against the Latin Americans. “We are very happy that we scored two goals and re-entered the ranking of the games. Now we are playing with a very good team that is a favorite for the cup. We can not do anything more than be glad to play well for ourselves and for the Greeks. And what good has to happen, let happen,” he said. “Milito is certainly an incredible world-class player, as are indeed most footballers of Argentina. They can do many things on the field. I do not think we can do something special to stop them. We will do what we know we do best. Greece knows how to defend well and we will do it now... After the first win we are in a better mental state, our feet move more freely, and I believe the team will show better image...”, commented Papastathopoulos.

The former football superstar Maradona has decided to ride more quietly as for the game coming. As the classification of the team in the second round is almost certain, he will give rest of at least 4 of the main players for the match with Greece. So they will keep their forces for further games. The only forced change is of the punished Jonas Gutierrez, who received a yellow card during the last game. The central defender Walter Samuel, who injured himself in the match against the Koreans, will be on the bench too. The captain Javier Mascherano, who has a yellow card, is expected no to participate in the match. Mario Bolatti will take his place.

”There are no incumbents and reserves for me; I have 23 incumbents. My team consists of beasts that will tear the enemy,” threatened Maradona after defeating the South Korean team with 4:1. While being too proud that is the fact. Argentina made six points from the first two games. Now it will have to lose with a big difference from the Greeks to fall off the group stage. One point in the match gives it the first place in the ranking. Thus the task of the Greek nationals is not easy at all. Moreover, the reserves will certainly do everything possible to gain the confidence of Diego and be able to play again some other time...
