The Council of Ministers has decided to remove Secretary for Revenue within the Ministry of Finance Katerina Savaidou, taking advantage of the fact that she is charged with offence, as stated by sources. While the European Commission responded with "No comment," a senior European official expressed strong concern on this occasion.

"This decision is causing concern that the depoliticisation of the administration will not make progress as planned, which in turn is the opposite to the arrangements that were agreed in the summer," said the senior official.

According to sources of the newspaper Kathimerini, sharp emails were exchanged last weekend between creditor representatives on how they should respond to the request for the resignation of Katerina Savaidou and whether they should take an official position, as in the case with her predecessor Harris Teocharis.

According to the senior official, seemingly the decision to remove Katerina Savaidou cannot be justified by the offence with which she is charged. For this reason, it is believed that the government's position is dictated by political motives.
