The Athens Municipality hosted a charity New Year lunch for 500 people at the indoor gym in Rouf. The event was sponsored by the insurer Interamerican, and was attended by Athens' Mayor Giorgos Kaminis.

"As the crisis continues, we will still be here. We must keep walking forward, in pursuit of development and the creation of new jobs," said Kaminis who was at the New Year's lunch with his two daughters.

"I wish a happy New Year to all the citizens of Athens," he added. Until now, the social programmes of Athens municipality have helped 25,000 people who have found themselves in a difficult economic situation.
