Battle in the Wrestling Federation

Former deputy chairman of the Hellenic Wrestling Federation Petros Galaktopoulos will stay in the management board. Galaktopoulos reversed his decision to submit his resignation, which he made in mid-February this year and as he explains, he is doing this in the name of sport. Galaktopoulos will remain in the federation, but as an ordinary member of the board. A major reason for his decision is the likelihood of wrestling sports associations, which in 2009 did not report the required activity by law, to be recognized and even to get the chance to vote. (This year's sports associations, which are entitled to vote are 79, 24 fewer than in 2009). 

Situation in the wrestling federation has now reached a stalemate. A meeting, on which the many problems of wrestling in Greece are supposed to be discussed, is long expected. Unfortunately, still no one knows whether this meeting will take place or not... Dark cloud continues to be the allegations made in the recent past by athletes and coaches regarding fake competitions. (Wrestlers have stated that they have not participated in competitions, in which the federation has declared their participation). 

Resignation of the Vice President's position, that the double wrestling champion filed last month, was an expression of disagreement with the manner in which Antonis Tsamesidis manages the federation. "I am not a puppet and I do not agree with the fact that the voices of Olympic champions are not heard in the board" - said back then Galaktopoulos and made an address to the athletes and coaches to oppose those who do not want the good of the sport. In a letter Galaktopoulos showed compromising details of how the federation is managed. Among them was the fact that the technical committee has not held even one meeting last year - a fact which in his words did not make anyone an impression. Galaktopoulos accused the federation that it has no plans or visions for the future of sport and that it also lacks a desire for change. Coaches cannot raise the sport on their shoulders, because they have neither moral nor financial motives required for this – explained back then Galaktopoulos. As a fatal consequence of poor management and lack of events, which contribute to the development of sport, he pointed out to be the training halls, which are increasingly empty...
