Robbery attempt ended with murder

A 45 years old man, father of three children died today after two men tried to rob the working capital of the toy store Jumbo located on the boulevard which connects the southern Athens suburbs Vari and Koropi. The man was employed as a security guard in a private company and was on duty at the time of the robbery. Along with two of his colleagues he arrived at the store in an armored car in order to drive the turnover from the cashiers to the bank. At the moment hen the money was loaded in the car the bandits started two cars parked nearby and stopped the armored car.

The security guards  managed to close the doors of the armored care, however the criminals started shooting at its windows with a Kalashnikova machine gun. One of the bullets hit the victim in the head. He was driven to the hospital right away where a little later he passed away. The other two security guards got away with a mild suffocation caused by the arson of the two pick up trucks. The cars on fire turned out to be stolen. The attackers managed to run away from the crime scene on two motorcycles driven by their accomplices. The police continues the search of the assassins. The busy night involved the fire department of Athens as well. A fire caused by short circuit in the air-conditioning installation stared in a Care center for disabled children in the northern suburb Kifisia. The 20 children who live in the center were sent intact to the nearest hospital. The fire was put out by 7 fire engines and 20 fireman. In another Athens neighborhood Nea Filadelfia unknown men set on fire 5 cars of the Siemens company, which was involved in one of the largest corruption scandals in Greece. In spite of the work of 3 fire engines and 9 fireman the cars burned down.
