One of the biggest researches, done with the participation of at least ten satellites and two airplanes, shows that Athens has already turned into a thermal bomb. According to the results, the city temperature will increase with up to 12 degrees. Another reason for this is the materials with which the buildings, in the downtown part of the city, are built with.
The different types of micro bodies, which are flying in the Athenian air, are working as a greenhouse and are not letting the hot air to rise and get out of the city. About a month ago - on July 22, a research based on the Thermopolis program, which is financed by the European Space Agency, showed that one thermal camera detected a temperature of 54⁰C on the Parthenon marbles.
One of the land temperature measuring stations showed that the asphalt on Patision Boulevard reached a temperature of 66⁰C. Meanwhile, when the temperature in the city is 38⁰C, a research airplane was flying over the Marathon Lake in East Attica and it measured that the temperature there was 26⁰C. In the airplane was also pollution expert Prof. Spiros Rapsomanikis, who tracked the most polluted places in Athens, which were emitting hot air.
"The way Athens was built and with the materials, which were used, is no different than a boiling tank."
