Anxiety in the traditional press, humour at Twitter

The extremely small difference of 0.5% between the two main competitors in the election campaign the Radical Left Party SYRIZA and the centre-right party New Democracy caused anxiety in the Greek media. Unlike previous years, the outcome of the elections held on the 17th of June can not be guessed immediately after closing the polling centres. The first news in Greek online media Naftemporiki was "Fight chest to chest SYRIZA - New Democracy". Ethnos, Ta Nea and To Vima talk about an election thriller and present the preliminary results as a real time horror movie.

Social networks were also flooded with comments and thoughts on the topic of which party will lead Greece towards its bright future. "Samaras is at his end. Once and for all" said in his Twitter the entrepreneur Grigoris Farmakis. The small difference which does not yet provide a final answer to who will take the office to form a government on Monday is considered a defeat for New Democracy, which was considered until recently a leading power in the country.

"The people answered with a clear Yo! (Yes + No = Yo)", said another network user. Humourously and with a dose of bitterness, a friend of GRReporter said on the social network: "All the mistakes of one country, at the same place, at the same time." Another tweet in the same tragic-comic style, reads: "Bus Transport EXPRESS: Routes to the border every day after midnight, free instructions to mountain trails. Payment only in euro." The last message is largely directed to the voters of New Democracy in the event that SYRIZA seize the power and Greece is "unexpectedly forced to return" to the drachma.
