For the third time in recent months, yesterday afternoon anarchists torched a trolley in front of the Polytechnic.

According to police reports, the perpetrators jammed Tositsa street with a garbage skip and managed to stop the passing trolleybus at 4:15. Then they forced the driver and passengers off the vehicle and set it on fire with molotov cocktails.

The Fire Brigade arrived immediately on the scene and put out the blaze before it completely destroyed the bus.

"I saw them, there were about 10 of them, throwing Molotov bottles at the vehicle’s front. They were doing this even before everybody was out of the trolley," said an eyewitness.

There followed a clash between anarchists and the police. The anarchists barricaded themselves in the Polytechnic and started pelting the law enforcers with stones and incendiary bottles. Clashes took place in some neighbouring streets as well. Special forces used tear gas.

Public transport employees were also attacked after asking anarchists to stop throwing stones, so they could tow the trolley away from the scene.

The clashes went on two hours. No one was detained by the police.
