Albanian recidivist Alket Rizaj, who has earned a reputation as one of the toughest villains in Greece, made a desperate attempt to escape from the prison in Malandrinou. As GRReporter has already informed, Rizaj is holding six people hostage - most probably four wardens and two prisoners. According to police information, he is behaving like a man who has nothing to lose and is determined to go to extremes. He has half a kilogramme of C4 explosives around his body, experts are assessing his mental state as an ultimate agitation and warned that he may resort to desperate actions.

A few hours ago the police, who have concentrated significant forces around the prison, used tear gas, which further angered Alket Rizaj and his reaction was violent. The hostages, who are observing him from a very close distance, are in a panic about their lives and have asked that the authorities immediately satisfy all the demands of the Albanian.

According to unconfirmed reports, his girlfriend Soula – Aspasia Mitropia – intervened as an intermediary in the negotiations with the kidnapper. She is also serving a sentence for complicity in his two escapes from the prison in Korydallos, but was recently released. Lawyer of the criminal Sakis Kehaioglou confirmed for the online edition zougla.gr that he had spoken with his client on the phone around 1:00 a.m. and he was in a state of strong mental agitation. He insisted that he be provided with a car with which to escape from the prison.

According to experts, the C4 explosives, which are wrapped around Rizaj’s body, are used by the military, but also by civilians for the demolition of buildings. Terrorists prefer this kind of explosives the most, especially suicide bombers. The amount of half a kilogramme is enough to kill the people who are near Rizaj. For the moment, it is not clear how such a quantity of explosives was brought inside the prison premises.

To be continued.
