Special Forces squad arrested a wanted runaway prisoner – Alket Rizai. The Albanian was arrested in a house in Gramatiko neighborhood, where he was living with his companion, famous under the name of Soula.
The police operation was coordinated by the Police Operations Center, ahead of which was deputy-director Yoanis Rahovitzas and 25 Special Forces officers were participating together back-up from the Security Department. The policemen had supervised the house all night and entered at 07:10AM this morning, while the people inside were sleeping. Found inside the house were weapons, one Kalashnikov and a hand grenade.
The police have been looking for the criminal since February of this year, when Alket Rizai and Vasilis Paleokostas ran away with a chopper from the prison in Koridalos. Paleokostas is still missing. Based on police information Rizai’s companion Soula, who was also arrested this morning, is a key figure in organization of the action this February, when a chopper landed in the prison and took away both criminals. The police claim that the woman is a foreigner, probably from Albania and she is about 30 years old.
During the followed trial after the prison runaway, the court decided that five Koridalos prison employees were guilty, among whom was also the head of security and the pilot and two other employees were innocent. On June 4, 2006 Paleokostas’ younger brother Nikos ran away from Koridalos prison the same way. After the police searched for him for years, he was arrested and right now is serving his sentence in a prison in Patra.
At 12:30PM today, more details will be announced about today’s arrest by the Chief Direction of the Greek Police.
