The protest parade of thousands of people from the Communist Party of Greece ended. It started from Pedio to Areos square, passed through the center of Athens, through the parliament and continued to Omonya square, where it finished.

"Let's all join together - workers, farmers, youth, seniors and immigrants, to repel the reforms that are detrimental to the people" urged in his speech the general secretary of the party Aleka Papariga. Mrs. Papariga made some sharp attacks on the government policies and the reforms. "The government is very wrong when it claims that the difficulties for the workers and for the people who are self insured through the towns and villages will continue for only three, four years" she noted.

"From the people's movement will also be born new public institutions," said Mrs. Papariga, who continued by claiming that it is necessary to set realistic and fair solutions in order to avoid the two-party system and of the handover of power from one of the other major parties - New Democracy and PASOK. In this regard, and referring to the coming municipal elections in autumn, Mrs. Papariga stated that there shouldn’t be professional politicians, but they should be elected from their job positions and they should not go out of production procedure when taking political positions.

In another part of her speech the general secretary of the Communist Party said that "PASOK's leadership is preparing to declare as a crime the Communist ideology, even the simple declaration and supporting of the socialist and communist ideas. However this time it does not take into account one factor - the possibility that the people and especially the working class might pass in counter-attack".

During the parade greetings addressed representatives of the Portuguese communist party, of the Turkish, Spanish, Belgian and other 48 communist parties from around the world.
