42 crews started in the Acropolis Rally 2011, which will be held between June 16 and 19. World's best pilots of the World Rally Championship gathered for the first time in Greece with new cars of new specifications, ready to compete in 18 special routes with a total length of 348.80 km. Among the participants are the seven times world champions for the last years Sebastien Loeb with his navigator Daniel Elena and their Citroen DS3 WRC. There are 18 WRC cars and the participants in the SWRC category are 10! The rivals fighting for the manufacturer’s cup in recent years are Ford and Citroen. They shared the first place in the number of participating cars too.

The crews Mikko Hirvonen -Yano Lehtinen and Jari – Mata Latvala - Mika Antilles with factory models of Ford Fiesta RS WRC of the Abu Dhabi’s crew rank immediately after the undisputed champion and they are expected to give everything to continue the good tradition Ford established on Greek territory, having 13 wins during a single rally.

On Friday (June 17), the viewers can follow the rally in Thebes, Elatia, Elevterohori, Rengini, Mavrolimni. On Saturday (June 18), the rally will be held from Kleania-Mycenae through Gimno, Kefalari and Nea Politia, and on Sunday (June 19) the viewers will be able to watch the rally in Agii Theodore, Nea Pisia and in the end at the power stage, which is a special 4 km route in Agii Theodore.

The first day of the rally - June 16, marked the symbolic start of the rally and the pilots walked from the Acropolis and gave autographs before that. Because of the heavy rain the multitude of people waiting to get autographs scattered, and the pilots went to the nearby restaurant Dionysus. After about an hour, at 19:30, the first crew of the Dutch van Markensteyn-Momberts with Citroen DS3 WRC started. Shortly after it appeared the car of one of the eight Greek crews participating on which the greatest hopes are set - that of Lambros Atanasoulas - Nikos Zakheos with Ford Fiesta RS WRC. Despite the rain, the audience stayed to cheer on the crews and see their favourites.
