live 4 killed and 15 injured in a crash on the Egnatia road

Four dead and 15 wounded is the outcome so far from the crash that happened just after 10:30 today on the Egnatia road in the direction from Veria to Thessaloniki, according to the Director of the Fire Service of Central Macedonia, Chrisanthos Athanasopoulos.

He is at the place of the crash and spoke via the Athens News Agency of a "terrible collision and piles of cars" noting that more than 35 vehicles, including three TIR trucks were affected by the crash.

Cars of the police and the fire brigade immediately arrived on the scene and, apart from the four dead, five injured have been found who were immediately taken care of by the medics. The other injured people have been taken in private cars to the hospitals of Veria and Thessaloniki.

The Director of the Fire Service also announced that 3 cars were completely burnt - one car and one TIR truck. A charred body of a man has been found in the car, and now the authorities are investigating the truck.

According to information, this morning the traffic police closed the traffic from Kozani to Thessaloniki because of works on the road. For unknown reasons, the truck driver had lost control and ran into dozens of cars.
