A mystery has enveloped the vanishing of 12 tourists from Turkey. They were lost on Friday in the area of Mount Pieria.

The tourists called number 112 seeking help. However, the rescue teams’ efforts to find them have remained fruitless so far.

According to the information of the fire service in Katerini, cited by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), the area where the 112 call was made, is situated 20 km North West of Katerini, and is accessible.

The foreigner, who phoned in for help on Friday, said he was a Turk, and, along with 11 compatriots, was stranded in an unknown locality at a distance from inhabited areas.

The phone call was tracked down to a place between the villages Moschopotamos, Elatochori and Kato Alonia in the Pierian Mountains. The search for the missing tourists began immediately.

Expect further details.
