We are talking about a 55-year-old engineer Antonis Sotiriou, whose company had not paid that amount for the period from 01.01.2011 to 31.07.2011. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him and he will be brought before a prosecutor.
Arrest warrants are now being issued throughout Greece against businessmen accused of tax evasion and any other types of tax violations. The respective warrants are issued by the economic prosecutor Grigoris Peponis, who has the list from the Ministry of Finance containing nearly 14,700 debtors of the state that have debts of over 150,000 euro. Out of these, 6,500 are individuals – freelancers and owners of small and medium enterprises and 8,200 are legal entities (companies, etc.).
Over the coming days more arrests are expected to be made, as an implementation of the Circular of the deputy prosecutor of the Supreme, Court Nikos Pandelis, who stressed the need for rapid implementation of the procedure for "challenging cases of tax evasion", in which the verified debt exceeds 150,000 euro.
