Chaos is reigning in Greece in relation to the undeclared work, as shown by the checks carried out by labour inspectors. Whenever employees of the Labour Inspectorate and the Social Insurance Institute (IKA) appear in a tourist area of the country a wave of appointments is immediately apparent.

As stated by figures in the market, in the majority of cases the undeclared workers "jump out of the windows" to avoid being caught by the inspectors.

Panagiotis Prountzos, president of the Federation of Hospitality Workers, who is involved in some of the inspections of the Labour Inspectorate, told MEGA about cases of workers who had escaped by swimming to avoid being registered as uninsured.

The data of the "ERGANI" electronic system of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and the dates of the visits of inspectors in tourist areas of the country from mid-June to early August indicate a substantial increase in the number of appointments in the inspected areas at the time of the inspections.
