Cyprian Turk leader Mehmed Ali Talat did not hide his disappointment from the Cyprian president Dimitris Hristofias. He defined his speech in front of UN Common assembly as possibly the worst one. “He destroyed everything achieved by the negotiations until now,” said on a press conference in New York Mehmed Ali Talat. “I offered him a three sided meeting with UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon but he refused. He is afraid that this way the Cyprian problem will attract a lot of attention from the foreign communities,” said also Talat. Tomorrow the Cyprian Turk leader will have a meeting with Ban Ki-Moon.

During the past week the relationship between Cyprian Greeks and Cyprian Turks suddenly went for the worst, due to the different viewpoints regarding the Turkish settlers on the Mediterranean island. As a condition for the unification of the island, Cyprus wants the Turkish citizens to leave for Turkey. According to Nicosia this settlement is a military crime, which contradicts the international rights and cuts across the EU principles.

Last Wednesday Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Cyprian president Dimitris Hristofias in New York and clearly told him the Turkish citizens will not leave Cyprus. “They are citizens of the Northern Cyprian republic,” said Erdogan. “When he has such a position, even if we meet 1000 times, we will not reach an agreement,” said in front of journalists Hristofias.
