Another five people died yesterday from the new virus and the number of the victims reached 68. A 27 years old pregnant woman and 29 years old boy with chronic diseases were hospitalized. Two women are in critical conditions and are being treated in emergency room. Another four people were also admitted to the emergency room.

According to message of the National health center yesterday the swine flu cause the death of:

72 years old man with no diseases

54 years old man with cancer

61 years old woman with heart disease

80 years old man with heard disease

52 years old woman with heart disease

In the emergency rooms throughout the country in critical conditions due to infection with the virus of the new H1N1 flu are now treated:

27 years old pregnant woman with no previous diseases

29 years old woman with no diseases

40 years old woman with kidney problems

30 years old man with disease of the immune system

Out of all 68 cases of people deceased from swine flu 10 had no other illnesses or health problems. Because of that specialists insist that the entire population has to be vaccinated, as a new spreading of the flu might hit the country at the end of January.

Besides all this each day less and less Greeks get vaccinated, with the exception of the citizens of the Crete Island, where one of every ten people is vaccinated. According to the Center for control and prevention of infections in other regions of the country the same percent varies between 2 – 3%. The lowest percent of vaccinated people is in Peloponnesus, Ionion islands and Epir.

According to report of the National department for public health care, 77% of the Greeks consider that too much attention is drawn on the topic, and 74% say they will not get vaccinated, because they are afraid of side effects. The data is from a research of the public opinion for swine flu made in December 14th to December 20th

The Greeks have some prejudice regarding the vaccine, doctors of the European drug organization are saying that cases when side effects have caused problems are very few. Out of 28,7 million Europeans among which 218 000 pregnant women there are only 9 000 cases of side effects, and only 14 of them are considered to be serious problems.
