Politicians declare their assets

The "green" Christos Papoutsis declared bank deposits amounting to 285,352 dollars and 330,872 euro, whereas they amounted to 357 thousand dollars last year.

Thomas Rombopoulos, a former deputy from PASOK, declared 2 yachts with a length of 9.98 and 2.77 metres and 2 boats with a length of 4.3 and 4.6 metres.

Dora Bakogiannis declared 171,366 euro in Hypovereins bank, which she had received from the life insurance of her first husband Pavlos Bakogiannis murdered by a terrorist group.

In 2010, Theodoros Pangalos sold 2 flats without declaring the amounts obtained.

The former deputy from New Democracy, Yiannis Vayonas, declared bank assets to the amount of 2.2 million dollars. His investments in euro fell compared to last year, when he declared 1.5 million euro.

The former deputy from PASOK, Evangelos Damianakis along with his wife declared around 1.4 million euro in different banks. 1.3 million euro of this amount had been obtained from the sale of his wife’s properties.

The former minister and close associate of Kostas Karamanlis, Theodoros Roussopoulos, declared an annual income of 1,319.2 euro for 2010 and his wife Mara Zaharea – 138,441.84 euro. He had sold a 100 m2 flat ​ in the Kesariani neighbourhood against 226,500 euro and a parking place for 3,500 euro.

The "blue" Aris Spiliotopoulos declared bank deposits amounting to 167,609 euro whereas a year earlier, in 2009, he had been one of the top holders of assets amounting approximately to 820 thousand euro. The difference is to the amount of 652,391 euro but at the same time, he declared the purchase of mutual funds and bonds worth 720 thousand euro.

The political leaders

The richest among them is the president of PASOK, Evangelos Venizelos. Along with his wife Vasiliki Bakatselou he declared bank assets of almost 2.4 million euro, various properties located mostly in Thessaloniki and Northern Greece and bonds in Greek and foreign banks.

Antonis Samaras declared a total income of 137,212 euro, 112,168 euro of which was from his parliamentary allowance, and total banking assets amounting to 238,308 euro, 23,137 pounds and 12,825 dollars, his property status being the same as in 2009. His wife Georgia Samaras declared an income of 53,625 euro.

The total income declared by the leader of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, in 2010 amounted to 82,571 euro. The property status of his girlfriend was not declared because they are not married. He declared also a flat of 114 m2 in Athens and bank assets amounting to 11,360 euro. According to his tax return, Alexis Tsipras did not hold stocks and bonds but only owned a 650-cc motorcycle, which he had bought in 2007.

Fotis Kouvelis declared an annual income of 108,744 euro and his wife - 30,678 euro and 5,000 shares of a large insurance company. They also declared various properties and bank deposits amounting to 172,299 euro as well as 2 cars.

The leader of Independent Greeks, Panos Kamenos, declared with his wife a total income amounting to 188.8 thousand euro and bank assets amounting to 11 thousand euro, 3 cars and one inflatable boat. According to his tax return, there was no change in his property status.

Nikos Mihaloliakos from Golden Dawn filed his tax return as a person in charge of the economic activities of the party. In 2010, he declared an income of 22,915 euro and his wife Eleni Zaroulia - 17,659 euro. The property they declared included 4 commercial sites in Athens, another 4 in Pangrati neighbourhood, one flat in the suburb of Maroussi and 4.5 acres in Gythio, Laconia area. Their bank deposits amounted to 3,624 and 3,239 euro, and they declared one car and a service providing company established in 2002.

The general secretary of the Communist Party, Aleka Papariga, remains the poorest among the political leaders with an income of 79,367 euro from her parliamentary allowance and a widow's pension of 40,174 euro. She declared one flat with an area of 90 m2 in Athens and bank deposits to the amount of 832 euro.
