The Spanish government also considers that George Papandreou’s decision to hold a referendum was not the right decision for Europe, or for Spain. In his statement, the Spanish cabinet spokesman Jose Blanco warned that this would lead to delays in the adoption of decisions and cause problems throughout the euro area and Spain. He pointed out that Greece's decision to delay the parliament decision would not help in any way the economy and the creation of new jobs.

Across the Atlantic, they identified the decision of the Greek prime minister as evidence that Europe should further develop and apply as soon as possible the package of support that European leaders had agreed last week. White House spokesman said again that the United States believe in Europe's ability to cope with the crisis of debt and will do so.

Back in Athens, especially sharp comments has cause the fact that the government chose today to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence, during which Minister Panos Beglitis has changed the heads of all military staffs. Despite the assurances from the Ministry sources that the exact date of the meeting was planned long ago, there  were some comments that the changes in the leadership of the army are related with the expected political changes.
