5. Drastic decrease of admitted students

The radical changes in higher education will be included in the form for participation in the entrance examinations in 2013.

Drastic cuts of even entire universities will seriously shorten the application form for candidate students - an unprecedented fact in the Greek educational chronicle, where the trend has been to expand, rather than to reduce faculties.

The first affected will be those, who have chosen to apply to faculties which are or will prove to be closed.

The number of students now coming to universities and colleges which will be closed, will be calculated depending on the final decisions on the closure or merger of departments.

Moreover, the closure or merger of universities does not mean that students will automatically have to terminate their education.

One of the means is their transfer to related departments of host universities.

It is also a fact that one of the criteria of the Quality Assurance Agency and the Ministry of Education will be the number of educated students in the schools which will be closed.

As for the dozens of technical colleges which are expected to disappear permanently from the educational map of the country, they have already been ignored by their students for years. Most of their faculties do not attract candidates or attract only few as a third or fourth choice.

Naturally, the wind of change will reduce the number of admitted students, which will fall dramatically as early as next year to reach the average percentage levels for the European Union countries.
