The Athens International Film Festival "Opening Nights Cosmote" will show 179 films. 96 of them are full-length films and 83 are short stories. The Festival has been traditionally held in September every year since 1995 and its attendance to date has exceeded 50 thousand spectators. The Festival aims to introduce the Greek audience to films of the independent world cinema and to show avant-premieres of films. According to the organizers, more than half of the visitors are in the age group from 25 to 44 years. Six out of ten are men and there are a significant number of cinema-goers coming to Athens specifically to enjoy the films from the selection of "Opening Nights Cosmote."

"We decided to hold the festival this year too because we are tired of hearing the word ‘crisis’ and of living as characters of a film devoted to a catastrophe," the artistic director of the event Orestis Andreadis said at a press conference on the opening of "Opening Nights Cosmote."

It will show avant-premiere films like "Amour" by Michael Haneke

"On the Road" by Walter Salles

The anticipated "Cosmopolis" by David Cronenberg

and "Beasts of the Southern Wild", which promises to win many Oscars

This year, the selection of the Athens International Film Festival includes the Bulgarian film "Faith, Love + Whiskey" directed by the young Kristina Nikolova. It will be shown at ODEON Opera cinema on 57, Akadimias Street in the heart of Athens, at 1 pm on 26 September and at 6:30 pm on 27 September.

"Faith, Love + Whiskey" is the directorial debut of Kristina and tells the story of the young Bulgarian girl Nelly, who decided to leave the United States and her American fiancée in order to return to her roots and to an old friend from the past called Val. Hopeless, passionate love flares. Then there comes the moment when Nelly must decide whether she wants to dive into the crazy life of her Bulgarian past or to follow the beaten track with her American fiancé. The film has its comic and dramatic moments and its first prize "Kodak Vision" for best cinematographer - Alexander Stanishev, from the Slamdans Festival 2012. The film stars Anna Stoyanovska and the well-known in Bulgaria actor and director Valeri Yordanov.

"Faith, Love + Whiskey" will compete in the international competition of the festival in Athens. The event will open on 19 and will run to 30 September. The ticket price is between four and six euro and 2,000 free tickets have been provided for holders of unemployed cards from labour offices.
