The goal of Olympic Air owner Andreas Vgenopoulos is to turn the airline in a leader not only in Greece but on the whole Balkans. As of now the local destinations of the company are 19 and the international ones – 17. The flights across the ocean are in collaboration with Delta and KLM. The airline has 32 airplanes, for which it has invested $1.1 billion and 5000 employees.

The local destinations of Olympic Air are Thessaloniki, Kavala, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Mitilini, Chios, Samos, Koss, Rhodes, Siros, Mykonos, Santorini, Iraklio, Chania, Kefalonya, Zakintos, Preveza, Yanina, and Corfu. During the off-season the airline will fly passengers to “non-commercial” destinations like Skiros, Skiatos, Ikaria, Kalimnos, Leros, Astipalea, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Sitya, Paros, Naxos, Milos, Kitira, and Kalamata. The international destinations are London, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Belgrade, Bucharest, Vienna, Milano, Rome, Istanbul, Larnaka, Beirut, Cairo, Alexandria, Sofia, Tirana, Tel Aviv. Cooperating with other companies Olympic Air will also fly to New York, Toronto, Montreal, Australia, Johannesburg, Atlanta and Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile all flights of the old Olympic company are being suspended, which were to 28 foreign destinations and 26 local ones. According to a statement from the management of the company, all passengers, who have bought tickets for after September 29, can be serviced by other airlines, including Olympic Air, without having to pay additional fees.

On October 1 Olympic Air will serve its first flight to Thessaloniki. Let us remember that the first flight of the old Olympic airline, owned by Aristotle Onassis, was on April 6 1957 and it was again to Thessaloniki. When it was founded for the first time the company had 865 employees and 15 helicopters.

On board of the airplane, during its first flight, will be members of the board of directors of the company, businessmen from the tourist sector and journalists. The flight is planned to leave at 07:45AM and return back to Athens few hours later – at 10:30AM on Thursday.
