During the last few years, a new form of tourism is flourishing in Greece – except for the classic one, which connected to the beaches and the islands. This is the so called “reproduction tourism,” which aims for the conceiving experience!

Hundredths of couples from abroad, come to Greece in order to conceive a child with the help of the local experts for aided reproduction. According to experts 300 couples, who have not succeeded in having a baby until now, visit the country every year. Most of them come from Great Britain, Italy, neighboring Eastern countries, the US and Australia.

Why do those people chose Greece, when it comes to the most sensitive topic of conceiving? The answer is not one but three: because the success rate of the aided reproduction method is high; because the law limits are more favorable than in other countries; and because it is less expensive than in other countries.

In Greece, every cycle of artificial insemination costs about ?3 500, when the same procedure in the US costs over $10 000 and in other Europeans countries it is about ?6 000.

Based on modern methods for aided reproduction, the success rate reaches 40% per cycle, which based on global criteria is a very high percentage. Except for this, the Greek legislature is very liberal when it comes to this method, compared to the rest of the countries.
