The chance for utilizing the Olympic heritage was also missed. Very few sights are offered to the public – most of them are used for commercial or entertainment purposes but not for sport needs. In other words, the word sport was taken out of the dictionary and replaced with trade, says Sgouros. Along with this, he noted that the total expenses of the Olympic activities in Athens came up to ?11.274 billion and only ?20.1% of them were privately financed. The chief secretary of the Culture Ministry Christos Bouras said that 60 Olympic facilities are used for investment purposes, 7 sights are given to sport federations, 3 – for public use and another 3 for commercial use. On the other hand, the chief secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs T. Skilakakis stressed that “2-3 precious years have been lost.”

Representatives of the Olympic Organizational Committee believe that the Games have brought mainly international recognition for the country but not financial benefits.
