It is unbelievable but it is a fact. The women’s heartbreaker, the star from “Dead Poet’s Society,” the irresistible Ethan Hawke will perform on a Greek stage. The loved American actor will make his Greek fans happy by appearing at the ancient theatre Epidaurus at the end of August as part of the Athenian festival. During the summer, Ethan Hawke will tell us the Shakespearian “Winter’s Tale” and it will be under the direction of Oscar winner for his film American Beauty Sam Mendez.

Many critics describe “Winter’s Tale,” written in 1623 as one of the problematic plays of William Shakespeare. Its first three acts are a deep psychological drama, after that there is a 16 year jump in time for the next two acts to begin, which are humorous and with a happy ending. As much as it is problematic, we can be sure that with Mendez’s talent and with the stage charm of Hawke, the play will be a hit. It is part of the so called Bridge Project, which for three years will gather theatrical talents from London and New York, in order to present the best of the world dramaturgy.

Sam Mendez’s American Brooklyn Academy of Music is also participating in the project and also the London Theatrical Troupe “The Old Vic,” leaded by Kevin Spacey. Partners of Ethan Hawke are the Englishmen Simon Russell Beale, Sinead Cusack, Rebecca Hall and Americans Richard Easton and Josh Hamilton. The plays over the Atlantic start on February 10th.
