Despite the global financial crisis and the headlines of the newspapers, which frighten with their prognosis for a decrease in the real estate market, in Greece things look good. The English tabloid Telegraph announced its awards for best tourist destination for 2008 – Telegraph Travel Awards 2008. Greece came second after Italy in the category for best destination in Europe, and by this came in front of Portugal and Spain.

Over 25 000 Telegraph readers voted in a ranking and 92% of them claim that the credit crisis will not influence their choice of tourist destination. Another interesting fact is that the British increased their visit to Greece with 6.4% in the period between January and September compared to the same period during last year, says a report on the Greek tourism for 2008. According to forecasts, Greece is foreseeing an economic growth of 2.7% for 2009 and at the same time, the rest of the European countries are showing a decrease.

Those numbers confirm the forecasts of real estate investors. Greece is expected to come out of the financial crisis as a winner because its tourist sector will resist to the world economy fall. Because of this investors are planning to realize their investments by either renting or re-selling bought estates. For the British, it will be a winning investment to buy a house in Greece for a second home.

Robin Brasford, managing director of a company of Samos Island agrees with the positive tendencies and is not surprised. “Greece has a stable development, when other markets have gone out of control and have negative consequences from the crisis. In Greece the owners have the opportunity to sell or to rent their properties. Greece is a beautiful country with great history and warm and welcoming people. I am not surprised that its popularity is increasing – it is the perfect place for those, who want to get away by the strikes of the financial crisis."
